The Rabbis Without Borders network lives on as a diverse, dynamic, and motivated network of rabbis strategically positioned to guide the American Jewish community through the fast paced changes facing the contemporary world. RWB fellows often blur ideological, political, and denominational boundaries to mine the wisdom of our tradition in service of their communities. Individual Jewish institutions are rarely monolithic, and the RWB fellows that help lead them understand this. The pluralism that comes from collegiality, beyond the boundaries of denomination and beyond the boundaries of geography, has given RWB fellows the intellectual and creative space to better serve their communities. Most recently, in the midst of socially distanced funerals and virtual services of the COVID-19 pandemic, the RWB network was more than a source of creative professional peer support: it was a practical leadership think tank responding creatively and innovatively to the crisis.

The 11 years of Rabbis Without Borders and its accompanying intellectual rigor and development laid the groundwork for Clal’s subsequent work with clergy from all backgrounds. From Rabbis Without Borders and its fundamental approach to the role of clergy in contemporary times, Clal developed Glean Network, Spark, Leading Through Innovation, The Belonging Project, and many other pilots in training clergy for the 21st century faith landscape.
