Rabbis Irwin Kula and Brad Hirschfield at the Parliament of the World’s Religions 2009

Rabbis Hirschfield and Kula were featured speakers at the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Melbourne, Australia, which took place December 3-9, 2009. This meeting is one of the world’s largest interfaith gatherings, the Parliament of the World’s Religions. Close to 10,000 people of every faith and corner of the globe are expected to attend this preeminent event, with the goals of nurturing harmony, celebrating diversity, and fostering sustainability and world peace. Regardless of country disputes or ideological differences, the Parliament provides a face to face encounter for people of faith to build spiritual connection and global cooperation, and to explore how we can use our respective faiths to meet the biggest human challenges of the 21st century.

Rabbi Brad Hirschfield helped design and spoke at four sessions:
• An intra-Jewish exploration on: What is the mission of the Jewish people today?
• An interreligious panel on: How do we build relationships across religious boundaries?
• The digital revolution and religious pluralism: How has the new technology impacted religion?
• Religious community: How do we build Jewish identity and community?

Rabbi Irwin Kula spoke at at two sessions:
• The digital revolution and religious pluralism: How has the new technology impacted religion?
• Religion and social justice: What is the relationship between religion and politics in addressing large public policy issues?
