Breaking News From CLAL...
US Troops in Iraq host Days of Remembrance Ceremony
featuring CLAL's Janet R. Kirchheimer's Poetry
As
part of a Days of Remembrance memorial service, Janet R. Kirchheimer’s
poems “Town Hall” and
“Breaking Laws” were read at a Multi National
Forces
service on May 2, at U.S. Army Camp Victory in
Bagdad, Iraq. Her
work
highlights her father’s arrest and deportation to Dachau on
Kristallnacht
(Night
of Broken Glass), which is this year’s memorial theme. The
request to
use her poetry was made by a Major
stationed in Bagdad, who found her
poems
online and whose life was touched by the Shoah early on.
We received video of the ceremony, a program and a heartfelt thank you.
